4 Tips for The Best Oven Steak
We can debate all day long about the best way to cook a steak, but we also favor doing things in a "smarter not harder" style.
So these are our tried and true tips for cooking an excellent steak in an efficient way.
1. Choose the cut wisely. You can do a lot of things with seasoning and cooking style, but you can't make a good steak out of a bad cut. Choose something that is halfway between lean and fatty with good marbling. For this particular recipe, choosing something on the thicker side is a good idea as well.
2. Butter. Cooking with butter is a tried and true secret for getting wonderful flavor from your cooking.
3. Sear the meat. Searing the meat on the outside helps prepare it for the oven and also gives the exterior a shield from cooking the meat completely all the way through (this is ideal if you prefer, medium-rare, or medium).
4. Cook at 400F for approximately 12 minutes (depending on the thickness of the meat).
How-to:
Prepare meat by poking with a fork several times on both sides. Season with sea salt and Worcestershire sauce.
Preheat oven to 400F
Heat skillet on medium/medium-high (preferably cast iron) and melt approximately 1 tbsp of butter in skillet.
Once skillet is heated, place steak(s) into the skillet and allow to sear for approx. 1 minute on each side.
Place entire skillet in oven and set timer for 10-12 minutes.
Remove from oven and cut into steak to ensure it is cooked to your preference. (If the meat is still a bit rare, this is okay. It will continue cooking for about 5 minutes if left in the pan once removed from the oven.)
Serve.
